Event Moderator, Tying It All Together: Considering Long Term Care in an Era of Health Reform (June 25, 2013)
Anne Montgomery is a Visiting Scholar at the National Academy of Social Insurance and a Senior Policy Analyst at the Altarum Institute’s Center for Elder Care and Advanced Illness. She formerly served as a Senior Policy Advisor for the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging, where she was responsible for policy development related to long-term care and elder abuse for the Committee’s Democratic staff, in addition to developing hearings and legislation to improve nursing homes and home and community-based services in Medicaid, dually-eligible beneficiaries, health care workforce issues, dementia care, and community and social support services for older adults.
Previously, Montgomery was a Senior Health Policy Associate with the Alliance for Health Reform in Washington, D.C., where she played a key role in writing and editing policy publications and designing public briefings and conferences for congressional staff and other stakeholders. She has also served as a Senior Analyst in Public Health at the U.S. Government Accountability Office and as a legislative aide to Congressman Pete Stark of the Ways & Means Health Subcommittee. She was an Atlantic Fellow in Public Policy in London in 2001-2002, where she undertook comparative research on long-term care in the U.S. and the UK. She also worked as a journalist covering the National Institutes of Health and Congress during the 1990s.
“A long time advocate for improved access to affordable long term care services, Anne understands the possibilities and potential of recent changes to current law and the nuances of Capitol Hill politics better than others,” said Lee Goldberg, NASI’s Vice President for Health Policy. “She was a key person in making sure the Affordable Care Act included some long-term care provisions and continues to be an important resource for the long-term care community!”
A member of the National Academy of Social Insurance since 2008, Montgomery holds a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University, and has done gerontology coursework at The Johns Hopkins University.
