Susan Daniels
Co-chair of NASI's 18th Annual Conference
Susan Daniels is a nationally recognized expert and spokesperson on employment and disability policy. She has 25 years of executive experience in leading Federal agencies, academic institutions and philanthropic organizations through development, change and innovation. Daniels has been a leader in advocacy, human rights and disability activism to achieve social justice and economic parity. She has been a member of the National Academy of Social Insurance (NASI) since 2001 and is a co-chair (with Richard Hobbie and Gloria Johnson) of NASI’s 18th annual conference,Older and Out of Work: Social Insurance for a Changing Economy.

Daniels served as the Deputy Commissioner for Disability and Income Security Programs at the Social Security Administration in 1994-2000, where she spearheaded the disability and employment reform activities resulting in the passage of the “Ticket To Work And Work Incentive Improvement Act of 1999.”
She is a former Associate Commissioner in the Rehabilitation Services Administration in the U.S. Department of Education, Associate Commissioner of the Administration on Developmental Disabilities in the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, and Department Head and Full Professor at the School of Allied Health Professions at the Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans.
Daniels has served as director, trustee or member of numerous charitable and community service organizations, national committees and state-level boards and committees, including the Disability Funders’ Network, National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, The Ability Fund, United States International Council on Disability, and Rehabilitation International, to name just a few.
Her long career in the service of the disabled has been acknowledged by numerous awards and honors, the most recent of them being the Presidential Citation by Rehabilitation International, “The Henry Betts Award,” Honorary Doctor of Public Administration, University of Illinois, and the President’s Award, Association for Higher Education and Disability.
