Our Founder’s Message

A Message from NASI's Founding Chair, Robert M. Ball (1915-2008)

Photo of Robert BallThe National Academy of Social Insurance (NASI) was founded to help you and other interested voters, tax payers, journalists and scholars better understand the role that social insurance programs play in our lives. Its mission is to conduct research and enhance public understanding of social insurance, to develop new leaders, and to provide a non-partisan forum for exchange of ideas on important issues in the field.

This Web site provides you with examples of NASI's work — solid factual information that helps you understand the appropriate role of these programs in your family's life and in the larger community. The information comes from NASI's conferences and seminars, from its study panels, and from the work of NASI's expert Members. It covers Social Security, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance and workers' compensation as well as the anti-poverty programs and the private employee benefits that are all part of the larger system of helping working and retired people, their dependents, and those with disabilities thrive amid the risks of our changing economy.

If you are happy with the information you found on this Web site and pleased that an organization with NASI's research and education mission exists, please continue on to make a donation here. NASI is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) public charity (FEID# 52-1451753) and your contribution can be claimed as a tax deduction if you itemize on your income tax return. A donation of any size will help NASI continue its work in a forward-looking way, anticipating and responding to policy issues affecting economic risks to employers, employees and their families.

Thank you for visiting NASI's Web site and considering a donation. If you want to discuss a planned gift or bequest, please call Pamela Larson, NASI's Executive Vice President, at 202-452-8097, ext. 325. You can write to her at plarson@nasi.org or 1776 Massachusetts Avenue NW, Suite 615 Washington, DC 20036.

Sincerely,
Robert M. Ball, Founding Chair
