Long-term services and supports (LTSS) remain one of the largest gaps in the United States’ social insurance system. As millions of Americans age or acquire disabilities, too many families face significant financial, logistical, and caregiving challenges because the nation lacks a comprehensive approach to financing and delivering long-term care.
On June 23rd, 2026, the Academy hosted a virtual Lunch-and-Learn exploring LTSS policy. This session included an introduction to the landscape of long-term care supports, who they serve, and how they’re delivered; key challenges in LTSS policy, including a look at systemic gaps, funding pressures, and access barriers; and policy solutions and reforms that can address these challenges and build a more equitable, sustainable system.
