As Medicaid faces unprecedented pressure in Washington, including proposed cuts that would dramatically reduce funding for Long-Term Services and Supports (LTSS), especially for home and community-based care, understanding LTSS has never been more urgent.
On June 23rd, 2026, the Academy hosted a virtual Lunch-and-Learn exploring LTSS policy. This session included an introduction to the landscape of long-term care supports, who they serve, and how they’re delivered; key challenges in LTSS policy, including a look at systemic gaps, funding pressures, and access barriers; and policy solutions and reforms that can address these challenges and build a more equitable, sustainable system.
Speakers included:
- Marc A. Cohen, Co-Director, LeadingAge LTSS Center @ UMass Boston
- Alison Barkoff, Director, Hirsh Health Law & Policy Program, Milken Institute School of Public Health; Academy Senior Fellow
- Howard Gleckman, Non-Resident Fellow, Urban Institute; Author of “Caring for Our Parents”
