This policy seminar featured the recent book “The Other Welfare: Supplemental Security Income and U.S. Social Policy,” by Edward Berkowitz and Larry DeWitt
This free policy seminar explored the history of the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program, featuring authors of a new book that traces developments from the program’s enactment through the mid-1990s; discussants provided additional perspectives on the program’s history. The seminar also presented new data on the economic status of SSI recipients today and discussed ways to modernize the program for the 21st century.
