Stacy Sanders is Federal Policy Director at the Medicare Rights Center, a national, non-profit organization that works to ensure access to affordable health care for older adults and people with disabilities through counseling and advocacy, educational programs, and public policy initiatives. Since joining the Medicare Rights Center, Sanders has successfully raised the profile of the organization’s federal policy agenda.

Sanders was formerly Director of National Neighbors Silver at the National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC). Prior to joining NCRC, she was Director of the Elder Economic Security Initiative (Elder Initiative) at Wider Opportunities for Women (WOW), where she worked with state- and community-based organizations across the country to promote the use of an economic security framework and tools in senior programs and policies. She has also served as a National Advisory Panel member on the Social Work Leadership Institute’s Hartford Partnership Program for Aging Education.

In addition, Sanders has led multiple coalition efforts, ranging from writing and coordinating national advocacy letters to overseeing joint lobbying initiatives. As a result, she has been instrumental in shaping Medicare policies. Sanders testified before the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform about the need to strengthen social insurance programs, and in front of the Administration on Aging regarding the reauthorization of the Older Americans Act.

“Stacy is a master collaborator who uses her intellect to quickly analyze new issues and focus on the areas of highest importance,” said colleague Kevin Prindiville, executive director of The National Senior Citizens Law Center. “She is a strong and well respected advocate for making the Medicare program work for seniors and people with disabilities.”

Sanders has a master's degree in social work from the University of Michigan and is the recipient of a McGregor Geriatric Fellowship award. After relocating to Washington, DC, she co-founded Raging Aging Women (RAW), an informal networking group for women who work in the field of aging that now boasts over 200 members.

A member of NASI since 2010, Sanders also serves on the National Commission for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Consumer Advisory Board and the National Council on Aging (NCOA) Center for Benefits Access Advisory Board. Additionally, she is an a past Executive Fellow of the Center for Progressive Leadership, and a co-chair of the Health Committee of the Leadership Council of Aging Organizations. Most recently, Sanders was nominated for a Young Women Achievement Award (YWA) by the Women’s Information Network (WIN).
