Because We're all in this Together: The Case for a National Long Term Care Insurance Policy

By: Robert M. Ball with Thomas N. Bethell
Published: January 1989

This 99-page book, published by Families USA Foundation, begins with the assumption that “long-term care is a family concern—a problem both for those who need continuing care and for those who must struggle to provide it.”  The authors use basic facts and graphs to describe the roles of families, private sector responses, and public sector programs. They conclude that “A public program is not an option; it is a necessity. The next challenge is to agree on a sensible plan – one that assign logical roles to social insurance, private insurance, individuals savings, and Medicaid and then to implement it.”  This book won the Elizur Wright Award from the American Risk and Insurance Association in 1991.
